The Canadian Whale Institute has developed strategic relationships with national and international colleagues to further recovery efforts for marine mammals, and particularly North Atlantic right whales. In Canada, we collaborate with
Saint Mary’s University on marine education,
Dalhousie University on vessel strike mitigation and stewardship with the shipping industry,
Trent University on genetic studies, the
Marine Animal Response Society on whale emergencies and several Canadian government agencies including Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Environment Canada and Transport Canada.
In the United States we collaborate with the
New England Aquarium on field studies and photo identification of right whales, the
Center for Coastal Studies and the
National Marine Fisheries Service on whale disentanglement,
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on whale necropsies and acoustics, and the
International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), Conserve.iO Inc. and the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary on
Whale Alert™.
